INSTITUTE
MALLORCA 2016

30th November to 3rd December

WHAT IS IT

Welcome to the website of the WFTC Institute Mallorca 2016

It is the V Institute that the WFTC organizes. CEIS Genoa organized on 2010 the IV Institute whose final document you have it in here.

This time, Projecte Home Balears together with Asociación Proyecto Hombre (Spain) are working to turn the V Institute into a discussion forum. A meeting of both historical and emerging leaders of Therapeutic Communities and between different realities with the same objective: to help people to overcome their addictions.

I wish these thousands of people that each year come to us, sad and desperate, could take advantage of our work.

WFTC Institute 2016

We are looking forward to the WFTC institute that will be held in Mallorca, Spain, from November 30th to December 3rd. Like the very successful institute held in Genoa, Italy the number of participants will be limited to 250 representing a cross section of member programs. The Genoa Declaration will be the basis for our review of the state of the art in the field of recovery.

We are witnessing a quickly changing world. The changes range from breaking down accepted social norms and agreed upon behavioral expectations to redefining old alliances. There are times when accepted norms seem to have been lost due to a surrender to the siren call of immediate gratification. The increase in addictions from new and old drugs, the internet, gambling and violence makes the presence of Therapeutic Communities more necessary then ever. Once again it is time to review our ability to respond to these changes so as to widen our effort to help the people who come through our doors.

The door was the symbol of Progetto Uomo in Rome. A light came from inside the room as a young person looked in deciding whether to enter or not. The light in the room cast a long shadow behind a person entering. The opportunity to move from shadow to light is an apt symbol for the Therapeutic Community.

We look forward to seeing you in Mallorca, where we will be greeted by one of the legends in our field, Tomeu Catala.

Brief History of the Institute

The members of the World Federation of Therapeutic Communities we usually meet every two years in a conference-congress held in a different continent. The main objective of global conferences is to meet members of all Federations and to discuss the processes we do as a service to people with addiction problems. These conferences are open to all members.

Six years ago we celebrated the IV Institute in Genoa, with the participation of 250 people from 50 countries, whose objective is to find people specialists, researchers and technicians TCs to share progress, new answers, new and sometimes old problems, in a climate of dialogue and discussion. It is not large conferences, but rather work around some issues and research and prepare before we intend to reach a final document to guide the work in the TCs.

This year, in the V Institute that we will celebrate in Mallorca we want to bring together the pioneers of the CTs. Together emerging leaders around five themes that are key in our daily work and that during the next six years are as the guiding beacon of our work.

PALMA

Palma is a cosmopolitan city open to the Mediterranean Sea with a wonderful climate throughout the year.

With its 430.000 inhabitants, it is the capital of the Balearic Islands and visitors can for instance stroll through its old quarters visiting its monuments, enjoy a drink at one of its terraces or go shopping.

Visitors are welcomed on entering the city by its impressive gothic Cathedral, mirrored in the water, the Almudaina Palace and the Castle of Bellver built as residence for Mallorca's royal family in the XIVth century.
